Sheema Khan – Professional Painter
Nasima Khan, known to most of her friends, family and followers of artwork as Sheema Khan, lives in two worlds. One is the world of Architecture, the profession she was trained in, and determinedly practices in spite of the ups and downs of the construction industry. The other is the world of painting and drawing, where she seeks the artistic freedom that brick and mortar buildings sometimes can’t provide.
Only three colors were used against the soothing white to portray the diversity and paintings of the architect made a visitor say. “Each painting gives a feeling of calmness and I could spend hours gazing at them.” Walking through her ongoing art exhibition. “Shifting Sand’s” at Bengal Art Lounge, Nasima Khan shares her journey with the Daily Star. — The Daily Star Report
Her artistic work focuses mainly on depiction of the Bangladeshi landscape, specifically the rural, riverine imagery that characterize that area of the Gangetic Plains. Her medium is primarily watercolor, her palette sparse and subdued with the unexpected splash of intense colors every so often. Her artistic style is strongly influenced and deeply informed by her training in the International style of Modern Architecture. Hence the modernistic categorization as a minimalist, reductionist language of art has resulted in her work.
